The Impressionists created many decorative objects, even though they were not official commissions. Monet referred to his ‘Water Lilies’ cycle as his ‘great decorations’, and in 1874, a critic wrote that he was painting ‘wallpaper’!
Discover another history of Impressionism, through the lens of its ornamental and innovative aspects for the sheer beauty of art. That is what this original temporary exhibition proposes through around 80 or so works by Cézanne, Degas, Manet, Monet, Cassatt, Morisot, Pissarro, and Renoir, some of which have never been exhibited in France. Showing at the Musée de l’Orangerie from 2 March to 11 July 2022.
