The Parisian region is the home of to many monuments that are worth the detour, the Rambouillet Castle is not an exception, the castle was one of the leisure residences of Louis XVI, this place is one of these fascinating treasures to escape for a day or more.
You will be able to discover a full furnished castle (don't miss the magnificent rocky woodwork of the Apartment of the Assembly), you have to take a pick as well to the French garden with canals and islands and an English garden as well.
It is in the park that you will find the two most exceptional places of the visit: the Queen's Dairy, built for Marie-Antoinette by Louis XVI, and the Chaumière aux Coquillages with its majestic decoration of mother-of-pearl and shells, built at the request of the Duke of Penthièvre for the Princess of Lamballe. Buildings that will not leave you indifferent.
In the castle’s surroundings, you you’ll see the pleasant paths of the Rambouillet forest, former hunting territory of the kings, a beautiful piece of French nature that is just waiting for you to visit it.
Please note:
- Reservation is MANDATORY for a date and time slot on the site of the monument, even for those benefiting from free admission. You will receive a gift voucher with instructions on how to book a date and time for your tour.
- The Chaumière aux Coquillages and the Queen's Dairy are closed until further notice.
- Free of charge for children under 18 years old and for 18-25 year old European Union citizens.
- Any closures (strikes, public holidays, etc.) and exceptional free admission will not lead to the refund, nor the extension of the duration of tickets.
As part of the Vigipirate program security controls are put in place at the entrance of Parisian museums and monuments. In case of a large attendance, these controls can create a waiting time which cannot be skipped.
