Ocean Exhibition

What hides beneath the ocean’s waves? While researchers explore a little more of it every day, it remains a mystery.

The exhibition Ocean: Diving into the Unknown by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle invites visitors to discover the endless treasures of the ocean.

From microscopic organisms to legendary creatures

Covering 71% of the planet’s surface, the ocean is full of all sorts of lifeforms, starting with the miniscule creatures essential to its biodiversity: plankton. Take an exciting journey to discover the secrets of these microorganisms!

The icy world of the Antarctic Ocean has long been considered a veritable underwater wasteland due to its extreme conditions. However, many species of fish, mammals and crustaceans actually live there! Learn about the amazing characteristics that some of these species have developed in order to survive there. Finally, this exhibition with its focus on the unusual promises to spark the interest of curious visitors by presenting legendary creatures such as the giant squid, the coelacanth and the giant oarfish.

When science is inspired by the sea

Following the exhibition, you can discover how humans learned to surpass physical limitations to explore the deepest depths. This vast expanse of water has become a source of endless inspiration for scientific research, but it is now being threatened.
The exhibition Ocean is a dive into the strangest and also the most fragile aspects of the largest biodiversity reserve on our planet.

Please note:
- Free entry to the permanent exhibition is granted to under 25s and under 3s
- Free entry tickets and tickets for days when the museum is closed (strikes, public holidays, etc.) cannot be reimbursed or have their validity extended
