The Muséum national d'Histoire Naturelle, a laboratory right in the heart of Paris
For nearly 400 years, the Muséum national d’Histoire Naturelle has been enriching our knowledge and provoking our curiosity about the natural world and its relationship with humans.
Situated in the Jardin des Plantes, this historic institution has five main missions: research, conservation, education, expertise, and dissemination of knowledge.
In total, it comprises some ten scientific departments, in which lecturers-researchers are responsible for studying the evolution of living organisms from the dawn of time to the present day.
Grande Galerie de l’Évolution: The show of life has its theatre
Under a 1,000 m² glass roof, 9,500 specimens are on show almost every day!
In this wonderful building created at the end of the 19th century and completely redesigned for its reopening in 1994, marine and terrestrial animals tell the story of evolution and the diversity of living organisms.
You will also walk in the footsteps of great naturalists, while measuring the impact of humans on the environment.
You will be mesmerized by the scenery and the grandiose lighting of this gallery, which puts on scene the history of evolution.
