The Musée Carnavalet offers an insight into the struggle of Parisian women for emancipation

The Musée Carnavalet offers an unprecedented account of Parisian feminism through paintings, sculptures, photos, films, manuscripts, and militant objects.

From the demand for ‘civic rights’ for women during the French Revolution to the law on parity in 2000, meet the women who fought for their emancipation: suffragettes, ‘communardes’, women politicians, Resistance fighters…

You will find well-known Parisian feminist figures (Olympe de Gouges, Gisèle Halimi…), as well as an important focus on anonymous women: trade unionists, artists, workers, activists, immigrant women …
