At the request of Napoleon III, in 1861 Charles Garnier began building a new opera house in Paris, which Haussmann was reshaping during the Second Empire. Inaugurated under the Third Republic on 5 January 1875, the edifice captured contemporaries’ imagination with the architect’s opulent, eclectic, bold design and decorative scheme.

This ticket gives access to the Palais Garnier's public areas : the Grand Escalier and the auditorium composed of salons and foyers. Visits to the auditorium may be restricted or impossible for technical or artistic reasons.
